I've seen human representations of Zecora before, but they're always black, it's refreshing to see a new take on my favorite canon character, I applaud the creative and detailed job you did in putting this outfit together, and while I am not going to ask to see a picture of your hip with the cutie mark on it, I am saddened that the 'cutie mark' of Zecora's swirl is not on the outfit in the general area or anywhere that I see
I was looking at the many Zecora cosplays on here to see how others had done theirs and I came across this comment. My first reaction was "Is there something wrong with the black Zecoras?" My mind went on a rant about it and Zecora then I calmed down and recalled that with the ponies there is no real race, they come in all colors and different types. In the case of pony cosplayers I think race shouldn't matter either but how great they did it and this one is pretty good that I'm inspired with a few details.
But I'll have to apologize a bit since come next year I'll be adding myself to the list of the black zecora cosplayers.
I meant no harm to black Zecora costumes, but it seems a bit.....overdone, how about something REALLY off the wall...like a black fluttershy, or a black applejack, now THAT would be original, considering the human pony stereotypes in place already
There was no harm done, really it's my fault for that train of thinking. In a way after I calmed down and thought about it and how the ponies really aren't labeled as a certain color I saw that really we are placing race on them ourselves. There was even an article somewhere where someone accused MLP of being racist and homophobic. I was so happy to see the fans and community quickly denounce that notion (mostly in a respectful way) and what more getting a rebuttle from Lauren Faust.
But this seems to be the way that things have turned out. Looking at all of the humanized ponies I rarely see them break from the majority being Caucasian and Zecora of a black African origin. We should branch out more.
I've chosen to do Zecora because I've been to cons and I've seen all of the other ponies done (black and white) but not a Zecora, and I wanted to do something different that I can't really imagine myself pulling off with the others but I can with her.
As I said the focus shouldn't be on those things but on how well the cosplay is done and this one does stand out in a line up of the others.
